Hope this link works. If not it's on Yahoo under the healthcare section and they list typical scenarios of what would happen with individuals given the new proposed plan. Read through these...they are mostly appalling and totally inadequate healthcare coverage for citizens so affected and as you read the scenarios remember, it's going to cost 900 BILLION dollars over the next 10 years. An answer which will pop into your head constantly, and incidentally NOT offered with the current proposal is a Socialized healthcare scheme which covers ALL CITIZENS irrespective of their financial status.
Focus in on the low income folks who either lost their insurance when they lost their jobs or are self employed and cannot afford insurance. In one instance (one which made me laugh out loud), a woman who fortunately has no serious health history, loses her job. Proposed "solution" (this is not new by the way): She is covered by COBRA for 18 months (same as now) then...she qualifies for MEDICAID! (whooopeee ..big change there...). Another one I thought was a hoot, is a poor guy (poverty level self employed), who had a heart attack one year ago. Remember..poverty level. He now HAS TO BUY his own coverage or face a Tax Penalty. Great plan.
There is certainly an answer or possible solutions to the Health care "crisis" none of which are included in the present expensive and completely inadequate proposed plan. Shame on you USA if this is all you can come up with.
I'm lucky. I have a job and decent Health Care insurance. The poor, self-employed, or uninsured will still have a very difficult time getting their health care paid for with the proposed package. This country still refuses to join the rest of the civilized industrial nations.
