Mick,

I imagine one day you as well as the rest of the Anglo/Irish faithful, will be making the obligatory pilgrimage to Patriot Place (not in Boston, but bucolic Foxboro, Massachusetts). Dining, "entertainment", and all the Patriot regalia you can stuff into your suitcase.

With regard to the brave hurling star, I hope he can emerge from this unscathed and stronger for his disclosure. Let's hope that his putting a public face on gay athletes will lessen the isle's homophobia and make it easier for the next generation of young gay Irish. The Roman Catholic church is certainly embedded in the DNA of many of the older folks, but make no mistake, the times they are a-changin'!

Given your description of this man's accomplishments, I cannot think of a comparable American athlete in professional football who has "come out". I imagine that doing it during one's career would make one an even bigger target. Christianity and football go hand-in-hand in some quarters of the country.
