I think what is most striking about this is the faces of the older people in the audience... I remember
working on a project that required me to do some research into the Ukrainian experience during and
after WWII, and being devastated as the reality of the situation there sunk in. Massacred, raped, and
looted by the Germans on the way to invade Russia, and then virtually wiped out by the Russians as
they were on their way to invade Germany. The survivors' stories are some of the most heart-
wrenching things I've ever read, or imagined.
