Saw the documentary, but not the AP show.
Two try to lose their illusions. Timothy only really made that one fatal error, much as Christopher McCandless did. Both for their own momentary lapse of reason. Timothy was agitated by a recent run-in with the powers that be. His error was to go stompin’ around territory he had not already become a familiar inhabitant of. Ego. Christopher, so diligent in his ways, misread a passage in a textbook. His error was NOT heading upriver to territory with which he had not yet become familiar (or at least have stitched a last-ditch topographical map way-deep down in his boot fabric). Shame. Remove those blunders, and they are still here ..living whole and documenting it for us more tethered to the machinations. An oversimplification, surely, as I 'm over simplicated. But these were good guys. Not a one of us wouldn't have camped out with them, given half the chance. But later on as we were driving off to our civilized weekly ways and means, they’d have been staying back, waving ..and smiling ..and going bye-bye.
