The legislation doesn't make sense, Pat. I'm all for verifying status and turning in to ICE anyone who is
arrested on another charge. And I'd be all for arresting those legitimately targeted in immigration
violation investigations. But empowering law enforcement to almost randomly demand papers on
suspicion, without a warrant? I haven't read the legislation, but that seems to be the allowance by many accounts.Doesn't seem right to me. Living in Texas, I can easily see that the result of illegal immigration is worse than what many liberals
think it might be. However, let's remember that a great many rock ribbed conservative business
leaders also have a stake in (and quietly promote) the status quo. Hit them (fine them) where it
counts, and more will get done.
