Miami is a long way from a championship, and in fact probably a long way from a conference finals series. They have 2 great players in James and Wade, one pretty good (but horribly overrated) player in Bosh, and then absolutely no one to fill in around them if the rumored trade for Beasley goes through. And if the Beasley trade (for draft picks) goes through, the Heat have only 6 roster players at the moment. They don't have a center to speak of, have a serious need at guard, and don't have any depth at forward. Unless James, Wade, and Bosh all take salary cuts, there isn't much cap room to go out and get the additional 7 players necessary to carry a team through an 82 game season and 2 months of playoffs.

On top of that, Wade is starting to run up some significant mileage, Erik Spoelstra is not a particularly great coach and does not have the chops to work with the egos that just got unloaded on him. If Riley manages to pull this off, he will go down as one of the greatest exectuive's in any sport of all time, and his history doesn't point to that as a big possibility.

As a Bulls fan, I'm very disappointed that a) James didn't consider them more seriously, as I think he would have had a better shot at achieving his goals there, and b) the way he strung the Bulls (and a couple of other teams) along when it is now pretty obvious that Miami was his destination all along.

I'm more and more disgusted with the NBA as time goes on, what with officiating scandals, player misbehavior, and the strong feeling that the networks get to pick the playoff series. This is just one more reason that I prefer college ball.
