So, since I accidently double posted and obviously Mick wants to talk about beer and the holiday season is upon us and god knows we could all use another drink at this time of the year, I thought I'd put together my own little running beer guide for my brothers and sisters of Baerwaldia. Something I don't really promote a lot around here is the fact that I really like beer. Of course, Peter, Dale, Gene, and David probably all already knew that as all of them had the unfortunate happenstance to have spent time in a bar with me. Also, I figured I should not encourage Mick by discussing beer anymore than he already does but at this point I would bet Mick's liver has reached a point where nothing else he subjects it to could make it any worse so...away we go.Mick and I are probably doomed by genetics to be beer lovers. I'm German on my father's side and Scottish on my mother's side so mix these two together and you get a mongrel that really likes booze. I do like a solid single malt Scotch too, that's a different guide altogether, but I will say that if you want a great affordable sipping whisky look no further than The Famous Grouse. Scots know a thing or two about making whisky and this is the best bottle of blended whisky you will ever buy and it can be had in most places in the US for about $30.00-$35.00! I'll let them sell it:"The secret is in the way we marry the finest malt whiskies, such as The Macallan and Highland Park, with exceptional grain whiskies for an unusually long period in fully seasoned oak casks. The result is a blend of the smoothest possible character. Raised in the Highlands, The Famous Grouse is proud to be Scotland´s favourite whisky."For more on the Grouse you can go here:http://www.thefamousgrouse.com/Remember "A house is not a house without a bottle of the Grouse!" and this really applies around the holidays when there is a family member around (or say the date a family member has brought to the holiday dinner) you would really like to punch in the face. In all seriousness though, I would say unless you plan on shelling out some serious cash for a bottle of single malt or well aged whisky this is the best buy there is. Enough about that though, we're here to talk about beer and being that this is episode one and I have a lot to say about beer this will just be my introduction. I'll move episode two to a separate thread. Here's what I'll attempt to do with this beer guide, I'll talk about selecting a beer, how to find beers you might like, give you some resources to refer to and hopefully inspire you to go out and try some different beers. Of, course I hope we get all free form and people contribute some beer info of their own...so basically I'm going to shoot for making this Mick's dream thread...
