"Turn off the damn electronic devices and READ, READ, READ."-----Thanks, Peter. That's what we do. We've got a flat screen with basic cable, but we don't turn it on weeknights unless/until the kids are in bed. But reading books (15-30 min themselves, and 10-15 min us to them) is a mandatory part of EVERY night. There are very few exceptions. Once in the habit, this isn't even very difficult to accomplish. Our kids still toss off some disrespectful comments every so often; it's a constant battle. I teach our sons that questioning authority is both desirable and expected, but how to go about doing that is really important.
