Netflix discs, streaming, buying DVDs/BluRays of things I really *need* to
have permanently (a terrible vice), and a lot of DVR from Turner Classic.
The beautiful thing is that I've figured out how to get the movies off of the
Tivo, decrypt the DRM, and save them to hard drives or DVDs, so I have all
the films I would ever need to watch for the rest of my life.We didn't really talk up the Oscars around here this year. Maybe DB needs to
score some great films to get us all energized again! I was pleased to see
Argo get best film, although I would not have had a problem with Life of Pi
winning either. Silver Linings Playbook was OK but extremely well acted,
Lincoln was a fairly typical Spielberg exercise in history and guilt, and I
thought Django Unchained was utter dreck, and probably the worst film
Tarentino has made. I haven't seen the remainder, although Beasts of the
Southern Wild is at the top of my list.Aside from that, I saw the Chilean film "No" a few weeks ago and it's worth
seeking out--not great, but a good take on an interesting period in history.
The Danish entry for the Oscar "A Royal Affair" is also quite good. Quartet is quite fun for a film about old people (not to be confused with A
Late Quartet)A relatively new Australian/German film "Lore" is phenomenal, I can't
recommend it enough to those who like a movie with some ambiguity to it and
want to see a different side of history portrayed. On the flip side of that, I watched "G.I. Joe the Rise of Cobra" last night
on cable. Horrible, stupid, ridiculous film, and everyone associated with it
should be ashamed. I couldn't take my eyes off it. ;)
