So finally this summer I took up flying. The other day we are out over the coast
toward the end of the day and the light was amazing. My flight instructor says
to me "What the hell is wrong with you?" because I'm just staring out the window
and all I could manage was "It's just so goddamn beautiful."He looks around and says "Yeah...yeah, it is."So for a few moments on a summer day the mountains, sea, sky and the fading
light of the sun had me reeling. Wondering how anything could be wrong in the
world amidst all of this. Of course at some point you have to come down and put the plane and both feet
back on the ground. The comparison I would make is seeing things through the
lens of time. From far away you appreciate the past and what it was but when you
are up close and personal sometimes you lose the ability to see it for what it
is. It's been an interesting summer. I added to my list of unusual stories.
Including having a guy that played with Miles Davis make me waffles...he also
has played with everybody from Frank Zappa to Alice Cooper to Golden Earring.
All I can tell you is as we sat at the bar at a friends restaurant he had some
fun anecdotes to share.
