http://www.cnn.com/2014/07/20/showbiz/james-garner-death/index.html?hpt=hp_t3I loved James Garner! Whether he was Jim Rockford or Bret Maverick, I always had the feeling he was
essentially playing himself. I just don't recall another actor who was simultaneously tough but anti-
macho, self-deprecating, big-hearted, and ridiculously good looking. My wife, daughter, and I have
watched every Rockford episode. Sure, they're hopelessly dated on so many levels, but the shared
warmth among Jim, Angel (everyone's favorite weasel), Rocky, Dennis Becker, and Beth, made you feel
like you were with friends. And I loved the messages left on his answering machine!Peter T.
