For the record, I recall Dale being quite a gentleman and taking the manuscript from his friend, saying he was not Dan, and handing it back to David saying he felt he should hang on to it. Also David and all of his band and...I believe one crew member/driver...were all excellent people. I also recall when we were all together chatting with David I had little to say because Dale and Peter knew a lot more about David than I did. I actually felt like a pretty lousy fan I was so in the dark. Also I recall David introducing me to his guitar player who was a wonderful guy that had unfortunately just broken his foot. I think that whole tour was actually a pretty heroic effort from those guys and really a big love letter to his fans. They drove all around the country in a camper...not just hitting the gigs but stops at radio stations as well. The day before the show David's record company called me...I'm still not sure how they got my office phone number...and asked me if I'd like to go meet and help out Shelby Lynne or Tift Merritt the following night...I can't remember which...and I said "No, David Baerwald is in town tomorrow night." and the guy said "Oh, yeah, you know David. I'll overnight you the record and some stuff." and sure enough a package arrived the next day with an advance copy of the NFU record and some promotional postcards.

I had a lot of trouble leading up to the show which I'm not sure I want to explain here but the show, David and the NFU, Dale and Peter were great. My friend Bob was the one that brought the drinks back to us including David's scotch. Bob was very concerned about David that night and also hit on the woman that was the opening act...which she came back and commented to me on while the NFU was onstage doing their thing.
