Yeah, actually I watched the interview last night too. It was interesting
to say the least and I do think Sean seemed pretty honest and forthcoming
but as you said, it (his original idea) would still be hard to wrap your
head around given El Chapo's background. I mean my takeaway was that
Sean's point was that if there actually wasn't a war on drugs, El Chapo
never would hive risen to such power? So perhaps it was the illegality
that made him that way. And that may very well be true, but at the same time we can't just
legalize everything out there or it would be complete mayhem. Because
lets face it, we're not just talking about marijuana (which is how he got
started) anymore. For example, heroin is currently a big problem in many
areas and that is mostly because it has become harder for people to get
prescription pills (which although regulated and possibly safer) are
still illegal for abusers. Addicts are still gonna addict no matter what.So although I could sort of see his plan, it just still seems ill-
conceived and he seemed to admit as much. And he certainly should have
at least suspected that having his name attached to the article was going
to cause people to miss his real point since it was a celebrity that
wrote it and since his point was pretty abstract anyway.Based on other things I've read also since then, it would appear that
other things he said in the interview may be in fact correct and that is
that it appears that the Mexican government is probably lying about
tracking El Chapo down based on their (he and the actress') actions. Still, it was a huge risk and I still wouldn't feel very comfortable
about the whole thing if I was him.
