but you didn't know anything about the society/culture in which you would live. As difficult as it may be, put your "present self" aside. Imagine that you are completely ignorant of your future talents, abilities, health, parents, social status, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, work ethic, class position, etc. NOW, ask yourself, what should the social contract be? What kind of a society would you want to live in? How should governmental resources be allocated? I think we'd all be well served if we could put aside our biases and our "present selves" and ponder this question. Do you want Norway or something more along the lines of Ayn Rand?
