The Paradise was where I saw Tom Petty shortly after his first album came out, and The Ramones in 1978,
a bunch of Southside Johnny shows, a few from Paul Kelly and Graham Parker and The Rumor (with
Lucinda Williams in support and Joe Ely in the audience),, and single ones from The Go-Betweens, Butch
Hancock, The Screaming Blue Messiahs (any one remember I Wanna Be A Flintstone?), Lone Justice, and
just a few years ago, Television. Great venue, so intimate. Best of all, got to shake the hand of my musical
hero, Joe Strummer, after he had left The Clash. Wow, I guess I spent some time and dough at
that Commonwealth Avenue club! Lost some hearing too! U2 played there in support of their first album
but I didn't know them yet.
