First of all, my apologies for being away from this message
board for the past several weeks. I have been helping a
family member that had been sober for about 30 years who
called me up despondend, drunk and made references to
suicide and informed me that he had been off the wagon for
about 8 months. I thnk God that he called me. Well, after a
week on a psych unit detoxing, the fog has cleared and he is
doing a great deal better. Sober, self esteeme and more
confidant. My God that was so mentally, emotionally and
physically taxing, but Jesus Christ was it worth it. Two people that I know took their own lives. Both were
veterans. One I was with at the time. There were five of us
all together at his house while in the army. We were
playing cards. I didn't yet know this guy very well, we
were in different platoons. Everyone was joking around and
busting each other's balls. He lost a hand and it wasn't
anything big and said, "and with that, I think I'll go kill
myself." We all thought he just went upstairs to take a
piss. Then we heard the gun shot. We all ran upstairs and
onew guy grabbed his wife to keep her from going and it was
too late. We were all in the medical field too, but there
was nothing we could do.My other friend was a veteran from the first gulf war. He
came home and battled his demons and his demons won. He too
shot himself in the head at his kitchen table. His brother
told me about it. He was real, real funny as a kid. He
lived real close to me but was two years younger. He was in
his early 40s when he died. Both of these and others so
tragically sad. I thank God every day that my brother
called me. Sorry everyone, didn't start out wanting this to be such a
bummer. In fact, initiallyrics I wanted to ask for different
interpretations on some of the songs on Bedtime Stories. I
have a tendency to think too much about lyrics probably
because that is a style that I use when I write poems. Well,
thank you for reading. Do me a favor please, reach out to
someone that you know (or don't know) and tell them that
they are loved and that you are glad that they are alive.
Peace, Fenway
