The Kavanaugh controversy is part of a much larger and more vexing issue: gender relations.
Forever, men have dominated the world. This was due to basic biology, cultural norms, and frankly the
need
to survive in ridiculously harsh environments as our species evolved, etc. For the last few thousand years,
religious doctrine certainly subjugated women and accounted for incalculable suffering, misery, and wasted
human potential. But things are changing, thanks to secular and enlightenment values. Gender equality is
gradually gaining a foothold in many
Western societies, but it's still lagging in much of the world, and yes, I will state it again, religion accounts for
a lot of this.
Going forward, in a world where men will continue to outnumber women, where many male workers will
be
sidelined by AI and automation, where women's brainpower and work ethic will increasingly be in demand, I
see a lot of heated conflict. Many men wrap their identity up with what they do for work. Many men need the
moderating influence of women. Too many unattached men will have too much time on their hands and that's
a recipe for disaster. I think we must engage in honest conversations about the horrible treatment of women
by men. And I think we'll also need desperately to address the needs of many, many men. We need to see
beyond our genders, our tribes, our borders, and appreciate our common humanity, and if we don't get this
right, things will get uglier than we can imagine.
The back and forth discussion here isn't unimportant, not by a long shot. But I do fear that we all spend
an
inordinate amount of time on petty things. I have a short video that I truly believe will benefit you all. I'm
spending 10 hours with this guy at a conference in NYC in November.
