My father used to always say Early Morning Rain by Gordon Lightfoot was one of the greatest written songs (along with Kris Kristofferson's Sunday Morning Coming Down).  For some time I didn't "get it." Then, one night when two of my friends, myself and he were having a few drinks (code words for "getting drunk") in his kitchen while he had his guitar out he played it for us.  It was one of those times where everything was perfect.  His playing and singing were flawless and we sat before him stunned and mesmerized. 

Now, every time I hear Early Morning Rain, that night in that kitchen, with drinks, good friends and my father, is brought back to me.
