I just heard somewhere that many and possibly a majority of Germans were privately opposed to Hitler but they believed they were in the minority and were therefore afraid to speak out. Had that silent majority known it was in fact a majority, and pushed back, things might have gone differently. Who knows if it's true but I do know that a variety of pressures often keep us from being that lone voice of dissent.
Similarly, if the GOP senators had voted as a bloc for impeachment, might they have diluted and blunted the wrath of Trump and his mob?
