of Trump's future. Quoting from Newsweek:
"For Trump, there are two broad pathways to maintaining power. First, we can already see very clearly a strategy designed to suppress voter turnout with the purging of registration rolls of large numbers of mostly urban voters; efforts to suppress mail-in ballots, which are more necessary than ever, given COVID-19; a re-election apparatus that is training 50,000 poll watchers for the purpose of challenging citizens' right to vote on Election Day; and significant efforts to make in-person voting in urban areas as cumbersome as possible in order to have long lines that discourage people from exercising their voting rights".
Stay at any cost! Why!
Suddenly the lightbulb flashed.
Four supreme court Justices are likely to retire in the next four years.
Mitch McConnell's state of Kentucky drastically reduced voter polling places in their recent primary. McConnell, in holding a seat open in the court, belligerently keeping an Obama nomination from being considered, tells us his willingness to participate in any scheme that keeps Trump in power.
In addition to the above tactics. the article goes on to describe how Trump, claiming voter fraud, will challenge a losing election.
Using Bill Barr to pursue the charge of a fraudulent election, especially mail fraud, plus claiming help from the Chinese for the Democratic victory it ends with a stalemate in the electoral college election, and a Republican delegate vote in the House of Representatives allowing Trump to stay in power.
Giving him four more Supreme Court Justices would destroy the country our founders had in mind; the one for which so many have sacrificed their lives.
Let's hope Mary Trump's book,Ghislaine Maxwell's testimony to the FBI, John Bolton's book, and ex-federal employees revelations will render his scheme useless.
My usual Fourth of July pride is bowed to depression. Trump is far more dangerous than Covid19, he is a pandemic.
If I hadn't heard every word of his last night's speech in South Dakota at Mount Rushmore, I would not have believed any US President could have made such a speech, supposedly celebrating our Independence and uniting citizens in the common cause of fighting a life-threatening virus.
It was vitriolic, seethed with patronizing arrogance, spoke to only his base of voters, and promised retribution for Trump-envisioned insults by first amendment-abiding citizens, protesting legitimate wrongs we've long hidden under the table of so-called equal-rights.
The self-described least racist man in the world finds it more worth his time to protect racist-reminding statues of confederate traitors to the Union than to spend time protecting human citizens of the Union threatened by the pandemic.
The road to that more perfect Union Lincoln spoke of is blocked by Trump detour signs short any arrows of direction.
The Independence from the King of England we celebrate this Fourth of July is threatened by the intentions of a narcissistic egomaniac retaining power far exceeding that of the 1776 King.
Mary Trump's book, informing us of the psychological origins and needs of this power-grabbing monster may also inform us of how to rid this scourge from our midst.
