The court desires to never be seen committing an overt political act and that would be considered one. Roberts would not sign on to that. I'm sure it is what most of them feel but not likely they would say it. She said it and that should have been enough.
Essentially, if there were any decent Republicans in the Senate they would stand up now and say "We held up the appointment of a Supreme Court justice for over 10 months because it was an election year in 2016. Now with only weeks to go before a presidential election we will honor the will of the people and let the winner of the 2020 election appoint the next justice."
Of course relying on the Republicans to do something decent is like letting Jeff Epstein babysit your 12 year old daughter for a month and expecting her not to get raped and defiled by him and his pals.
