Well, the court needs to have the odd number of judges as that works best for making a decision. If you have an even number of judges and they have a split decision this means that the lower court decision stands. So, you can have that and that does lessen the power of the Supreme Court. However, with more judges on the court you have a far, far lesser chance of the decisions being influenced by a corrupt president like Trump. While he would like to be Chavez, I think most politicians in this country would not act in this manner.
Also it greatly would reduce the ability of one party to "stack the court" because one or two judges retire or pass away. It would take a much, much longer period of time to shift make-up of the court and create a better system to deal with their workload. Plus you would not have 9 judges from two different colleges. It would make these battles about appointing Supreme Court judges a much lesser thing because one appointment or even two or three would not allow scum like McConnell and Trump to shift the balance.
This particular battle leads to a lot of the insane partisanship that has destroyed our government and it wreaks havoc with elections. Primarily the rules you would want would remove the powers of a guy like McConnell so that he is not always making things up as he goes. Rules should be made to lessen the partisanship so a guy like McConnell does not hinder a president like Obama from appointing ANY judges for YEARS. This is why Trump has been able to appoint so many judges during his 4 years...BECAUSE MITCH BLOCKED ALL JUDGE APPOINTMENTS MADE BY OBAMA, NOTJUST GARLAND.
All the judges that have been seated during Trump's presidency have not been his work, McConnell is responsible for all that. This is Mitch's greatest achievement. He blocked all appointments for Obama so when Trump was elected Mitch could go absolutely nuts appointing corrupt pro corporate judges that will let all these corrupt bastards off the hook if they end up in a courtroom.
This is why the Democrats have to proceed with the plan to expand the Supreme Court...the justice system has already been broken by McConnell. Will the Democrats expand the court if they win the Senate? I have no idea, they appear to be completely without the will to fight. Biden probably would be against it. If they want to make even a minor attempt to improve the situation with the courts in this country the start is to increase the number of justices to 15 or even better 19.
And let me just say that McConnell packing the courts with judges has nothing to do with abortion...he and Trump could give a flying fuck about that. It's all about greed and unchecked corporate powers.
