Great share, EEE. I take your points. This gent reminds me a bit of my late, great Uncle Frank. Frank also worked the big woods (of central New Hampshire) for decades, and he had the massive hands to prove it. I think they would have happily swapped stories and a Budweiser with each other.
I have no doubt that there are many decent and dignified folks in Trumpistan, in the red states. I share and admire a lot of their values. I get it when he talks about enjoying life's simple pleasures. I often feel similarly, but I do think there's a narrow perspective found in certain people that often doesn't challenge the views they grew up in. And I get how it must sting bitterly as they are sometimes talked down to by better educated, more cosmopolitan people. Democrats have to do better and some of our eloquent, hyper-educated fellow travelers need to engage their brain before they speak, because we have a lot to learn from our fellow citizens on the right, and a lot to lose if they aren't shown genuine respect. Having said that, I do believe there's a sizable contingent on the right who are racist, ignorant, and dangerous. In a word, deplorable.
