What has killed the spirit of many in our country is the lack of accountability for the wealthy and the powerful. What the Republicans are doing now is just attempting to delay any prosecution for their actions by ignoring the law and making everybody have to take them to court. Where they lose but then appeal. And when they lose again they appeal again, with the intent being stretch out prosecution for years and try to take every fight all the way to the Supreme Court. 

They know that elections here are happening every two years for midterms and every 4 for president. So they know they can easily keep things stuck in court for that period of time and if/when they regain control of the Senate, Congress, presidency then they can use their power to end any prosecution of them.

This is now the Republican strategy. Get your popcorn and watch how it plays out. 

Basically, our country is now on a short leash. We will have the 2022 election next year and then 2024. If Republicans win back the Senate, House, and presidency...well...that's it. As a democracy we are done. They will radically change this country to something that operates like Putin's Russia. Elections won't matter or will be eliminated and basically states will install whomever they want to run the government. 

They are on schedule to get this done. More than half of Republican voters believe that the last presidential election was stolen. Republicans are running on this and promoting the idea that the election was stolen. This is despite the fact that all evidence points to the last presidential election being one of our most secure elections in the history of our nation. They have not produced a single shred of evidence that the election was stolen...still more than half their voters believe it was. What's that old saying about if you repeat a lie enough times?

Oh well, this does not matter. Republicans are running for office on fairy tales and invented grievances. This blows truth out of the water and it is working. 

So, yes, currently we are a nation where all we have is suspended accountability if you are wealthy or powerful. You stall, keep things snaking through the court system, delay until the next election cycle, then you can walk away laughing at anybody trying to uphold the law. 

This is now our country. Putin will visit often if the Republicans win back power. He showed them this could work and they have bought in. They love him for it.
