Icon Re: Some Real Emotion on Loss

I cannot stress enough how emotional these last 24 hours have been.  But I think I'll look back on something remarkable:  in that time, I've heard (via phone call or direct message) from no fewer than 16 different members of the ensembles.  Two went on to become conductors/teachers themselves.  Three were professional musicians in different arenas (one even played bass with Chris Cornell for a while).  Several still play in community orchestras.  Mr. Bauer's impact was so dramatic, and I'm seeing that in comments on his memorial page from students at later stops in his career (South Salem, OR, Naperville, IL, and finally Meridian, ID).  It was remarkable how kind and patient but also suitably firm he could be.  This was the kind of person who could really bring things out of you that you did not know you had.
