Probably Tucker would antagonize him more but Hannity I don't think wanted to do that. Basically, I think of this in a couple of ways. You probably can't get people that are more opposite in their thinking than Penn and Hannity so, in many ways it is potentially a good thing to see them talk. The topic is kind of softball because there really is no disagreement that what is going on in Ukraine is terrible. Not really difficult to agree on that.
So, he and Hannity really have nowhere to go in this conversation. Everybody agrees that killing innocent people is a bad thing. Unless you are a QAnon nutter that thinks Putin and Trump have engineered the war in Ukraine to destroy the deep state and reveal their crimes. And if that is what you believe, well, you have checked out of reality.
The other aspect of what they discuss is trust. Penn states he does not trust Hannity. Truth is, nobody should trust Hannity because he is a professional liar and propaganda artist who is paid to confuse people and politicize everything he speaks about.
Penn takes a risk going on FOX because he gives them the chance to play with what he says. He also though gives the FOX viewer a chance to listen to him.
Does any of it amount to anything? Probably not. I guess the win for FOX and Hannity is putting him on at all. It makes them appear to be "open" to airing an opposing viewpoint but in truth, there is nothing really opposing on display. We just get agreement on a topic that is easy to agree on.
I do think in having a conversation with someone that has an opposite view of something than you a good way to start is to try to see what is there that you do agree on.
It was what I wanted to do with Marc or the Q woman. I wanted to see, do we agree on some things. Marc basically began by saying we do.
With the Q woman I was going to speak to I think it would have been much more difficult. Her beliefs are far from reality and so, finding common ground or facts to agree on I think would have been very difficult.
Hannity and Penn brush up against a couple other topics in their talk but neither man goes near them really. I think they had an agreement to only talk about Ukraine. Even in that you can see where Hannity would like to go. He wants to politicize it to try and say Biden is making mistakes. He does not go down that road with Penn there but he knows he can do that later.
Penn does just fine, stays focused on the topic and admits his distrust, which Hannity has more than earned. It is not a talk or debate with a "winner" as Penn just is there to bring attention to Ukraine and Hannity agrees the Ukraine situation is terrible.
There are a couple funny moments but kind of to be expected.
