I guess I would say that I am not sure that the rage, the hate, the anger, and the racism is worse now than it was in the past. I think we hear it a lot now because the internet and the way news is delivered allows for every voice and opinion to seem either equal or more amplified. So, you can get pummeled by it sitting in your home watching TV or surfing the web.
Is it worse now? I think probably not. I mean it is worse that it was before Trump was elected because Trump is a racist guy filled with hate that gave racists hope and a louder voice. So, his cheerleading hate, racism and division got the worst elements of society riled up. They feel more confident expressing this hate aloud because a president of the United States told them they could.
Still, while we could be headed for more hate fueled violence from the MAGA crowd, I think we are still well below levels of hate filled violence we have had in other decades. Trump and his MAGA crowd are pushing to bring that level of violence and hate back but I am not sure our society really wants that. I still maintain that the MAGA morons that want that are contained to around 35% of Republicans (and the number may have increased) which is dangerous but in the grand scheme that is a small portion of our population. I am talking just 35% of Republicans not 35% of the entire population.
Yes, as I have said before, that is still a huge number of hateful maniacs to deal with because it means there are millions of Americans that are hate filled, potentially violent loons. That is a number large enough to do severe damage to the country and the world.
The Democrats seem to feel that women are the key to our elections this time because they are under attack by the Republican party. Their rights are being taken away and so what they want to see in this election is women turning out in droves to vote out Republicans in Red states. If women turn out in huge numbers, that is said to be a good sign for Democrats.
I agree we will always have hate and racists and garbage like Trump and Margorie Green. Those elements don't go away but you try to make them climb back under their rock so you don't hear from them. There will always be a segment of voters that vote for them but I think that will always be a small percentage because I don't think most people want a hate filled world and don't want to hear the garbage these people spew.
I think you are right, Mick, that the wheel just turns and we get light through some times but then we go through periods of darkness. Humanity, being the way it is, perhaps needs to go through the dark times to understand how much better it is to be in the light. Society does not all learn at the same pace and so we really have to allow for a certain percentage of hateful idiots to always be there.
We are living through a moment where the hateful idiots have a loud voice, their own TV networks, and the internet. I don't think there are more of them but they are just louder. We just need to hope at some point these people stop falling for con men and liars. How many times can they be fooled?
