When it comes to guns in America I want to puke. There is no polite way to put this, but when it comes to guns in this country, this country is truly fucked up.
Since 2020, the leading cause of death in America for people between the ages of 1 to 19 is guns. Over 45 THOUSAND a year lose their life due to guns. (Now, these numbers include everything from accidents to murder to suicide).
How is it that there has not been some sort of mandate for guns to be labeled as a national health hazard and a true epidemic?
And what really pisses me off is that there are quite a number of reforms that could be enacted that would save lives but would not permanently infringe upon one's right to possess a firearm. On top of this anger, other things that anger me include when people argue for reforms that are meaningless and would do nothing or use idiotic claims when it comes to firearms (for example, claiming the advancement of the printing press to modern-day word processing is similar to that of a musket to an AR-15).
I simply can't understand why politicians can't come together and work on this issue and solve it the best way they can. I know that a large number of gun deaths can't be prevented one way or another, but there are ways to stop some of these killings - prohibit straw purchases, lock down gun show loopholes, mandatory criminal record checks, limiting magazine capacity, cool off periods, age restrictions on certain firearms, the implementation of civil penalties (especially for cases where the burden of proof is beyond a reasonable doubt versus 51 percent in civil matters), stricter standards on firearm storage (a recent study found that the number one source of firearms is that of firearms stolen from vehicles), mandatory gun locks, target hardening (for these idiotic parents bitching about banning books and what bathroom a person can use, how about they get off their lazy asses and volunteer as school door monitors - though in this recent shooting in Tennesee that would not have worked) and on and on.
Not one of these involves a permanent infringement upon one's right to own/possess a firearm. And none of this takes into account the massive dollars dealing with medical issues of those injured by gunfire.
But what do we get? Fucking "thoughts and prayers" and nothing. Absolutely nothing.
