I think they want those arguments to sound stupid and offensive because that draws the most attention to them and makes them repeatable. Repeatable in that the people that like those arguments like them because they are stupid and offensive and the people that don't like those arguments repeat them because they say "Can you believe this idiot said this?"
I try to keep things as basic as possible in that all I ask people to do is acknowledge facts and reality. Sadly, even that is a major task for some.
