What worries me about AI is I wonder if where we are right now is that of standing on the precipice of an enormous Pandora's Box that we have little insight into the future when it is really opened. And in our current knowledge, the unanticipated consequences may almost be beyond the reach of informed predictions.
Now, here is a prediction I have - with Musk's foray into chips in the brain, I do think that at some point - it may be ten, twenty, fifty, a hundred or more years away - we will be able to "Bluetooth" our thoughts right out of our imagination and mind. To illustrate, I think at one point we will be able to directly transmit what we are thinking to other mediums like paper, email, word processing, and the like. I think this will even include being able to "draw" or "paint" something directly from our brain to some other medium. This would also include being able to "Bluetooth" person to person, or even that of like a "group chat."
Now, here is where it gets even more troublesome - whenever there is any sort of collected information, there will always be ways to obtain that information both legal and illegal and my point is, like cell phone data, this sort of data will be obtainable in different ways.
Not only this, once one starts to think about the implications of AI and data, this world only grows - for example, hackers will attempt to break into such systems. Then, one has to bring up the possibility of electronically/digitally messing around with this data in both sending and receiving. Imagine if somehow someone is able to reverse hack someone's data - in other words, electrically/digitally infect another's mind or a group of peoples' minds.
And if people think this is wildly far-fetched, all one has to do is do a deeper dive into what sort of information is available through a person's cell phone (I saw a news piece about how a hacker could obtain a huge amount of data from a person's cell phone if that person used wi-fi in places like hotels or other public access points. Not only that, data on each phone within that single person's cell phone was also accessible).
I really do not believe people have a wide appreciation for all the data that is floating around out there and like in the movie Heat, all it takes is for someone to figure out how to reach up and grab it.
One more example of this creep into obtaining data from people (and someone wrote about this in Wire) - a few weeks ago, for my mother-in-law, my wife asked me if there was something I wanted for Christmas. I mentioned I would like a metal pizza peel with slits in it. Later, guess what showed up in my social media feeds? Steel pizza peels.
So, imagine if this "mental Bluetooth" capability is realized and what it means all across the board. And then think of the possibility of a non-human entity being programmed to mine all that new data "floating" around.
And to even become more worried, don't forget that we have a Congress that is so inept that these sorts of things are not only being ignored, but at the same time, some real evil fuckers are already figuring out the best way to weaponize such data and use it against us.
