I find myself in DC visiting my son. This morning we went to a restaurant/movie theater and saw the a special screening of the extended version of LOTR: Fellowship of the Rings. As we head into the adventure of 2024, LOTR seemed to have some parallels to where we find ourselves now. We will be working to make sure that the Orange One is defeated and to save all of us from the tyranny that he would bring. After the movie, my son drove me around DC. It is raining and yucky so we didn't get out. When we drove by the US Capitol, there were many police cars stationed on all sides, to make sure there was no trouble. I got to see the Supreme Court, the VP's residence, and the White House, as well as the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument. l haven't been to Washington to sightsee since I was little, so it was exciting. I'll come back later to actually visit. Anyway, seeing all of this on this particular day, had a much different effect on me than I think it would usually have had. In the movie, Galadriel said "Even the smallest man can change the future." This was not actually in the book, but Tolkien did write that Elrond, at the Council, said "Yet such is oft the course of deeds that move the wheels of the world: small hands do them because they must, while the eyes of the great are elsewhere." Either way, each of these is relevant to the work we need to do between now and November 2024. And here's something on a lighter note that I saw today: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BC35cQKHwzg
