Sadly, this is sometimes how my brain works, but I believe I have finally figured out why so many involved in law enforcement give Trump a pass for what he caused on J6.

If everyone recalls, right after J6, almost everyone was rightfully aghast - even many Republicans.  Then, slowly, things started to change and one thing that really troubled me was how so many police officers started giving Trump a pass and kept on supporting him. Ever since this turning started and I kept hearing more and more of those in policing soften their criticism - even people I worked with for decades - this "forgiveness" has troubled me ever since (and it still does and gravely so).

Anyway, other than deep partisan party affiliation, here is what a large part of this comes down to in my opinion - many police officers across the country, especially the ultra-masculine types, do not perceive the Capitol police and those police officers there that day, as the real police.  They perceive those in law enforcement in positions like this as nothing more than armed security guards.

There is another aspect of policing that many overlook and that is, so often, police officers stereotype other officers from other jurisdictions and then often base their perceptions on such idiotic things. I saw this all the time - (basically, it is the measuring of the dick between men sort of thing).

Frankly, we all do shit like this to assist us in our perception development of strangers and people we meet for the first time (remember how as a kid you would ask someone who their favorite musicians, stars or athletes were to then base your opinion of that kids' taste in all of these?).

And this goes on through all branches of LE, too - for example, city coppers see the state troopers as ticket writers or traffic bosses; county officers see city officers as being lucky to have so much back up close by to suggest their toughness; cities with more crime, see those with less as not having "real" criminals.  And this goes to size and population, as well.

But don't get me wrong - I believe other aspects are there as well - R vs D, Race, and all the other things, but also, these things I described.

Sounds silly, doesn't it? I mean, really, how can any sincerely thinking person involved in law enforcement or the military support Trump?  And for those of us who truly love these elements of American society, it is a painfully distressing thing not to be able to understand.
