I was a Hall and Oates fan through the years, but Darryl Hall has soured on me because of some of his behavior. One of the turning points was how he whined about how much time was given to Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band at one of the RR HOF ceremonies. Yes, Hall and Oates were big in their day, but H&O, in my opinion, was not on the same playing field as Springsteen and E. Street. I've also disliked his comments about John Oates and how dismissive they have been regarding his participation in H&O. Not only that, so many of the interviews I've seen tend to have a lot of "I, I, I" in them.
Next up, and I hate this one - is Chrissie Hynde. I used to just love The Pretenders, and the worst thing I ever did regarding The Pretenders was to read her autobiography. I think there is truth in the comment of how never to meet those well-known people you like because it will ruin your impression of them. Her autobiography did that for me because after reading it, my main takeaway from it was an impression that her personality contained quite a bit of, "I got mine, screw you and get your own." in my reading of her autobiography.
Now, one autobiography that really enhanced my impression of a rocker was Liz Phair's. It was unlike what I thought it would be - I thought it was going to be a wild tale of rock and roll wildness and instead, it was a wonderfully written autobiography that was much, much more than just a ribald tale of rock and roll excess.
