I will check that out, E.

What I am going to watch maybe tonight or maybe later in the week when the election results are confirmed and we know that Harris is our next president is a brand new version of the movie Caligula. Yes, that Caligula, from Bob Guccione of Penthouse fame. The one he loaded up with porn and recut after Tinto Brass was basically fired from the project and everybody involved took their name off it.

The film has been totally recreated, the porn stuff removed, and it was reconstructed from alternate takes of what Brass shot. I know the film has a shit reputation, but the truth is, it has absolutely gorgeous sets and is loaded with wonderful actors...and you get much more of both in this new version.

The things that always stood out about this film to me were that it that it did have a great cast, it looked beautiful, and that weird moving wall thing that appears in the film that chops off the heads of people buried up to their necks in the ground. I was a Malcolm McDowell fan, and he is kind of great in this and was a great choice to play Caligula. Yes, he seems like Alex from A Clockwork Orange in a toga, but that worked for me. Malcolm says this new version, which I believe they claim is built from 100% new footage that was never seen nor used in the original releases of the film, reveals the performance he was attempting for the first time.

This new cut is about 3 hours long now and honestly, Donald Trump has always reminded me more of Caligula than Hitler. The way I see it, guys like this always come to a bad end...and I think we are about to see Don's bad ending.

Weird three hour Roman epics are not for everyone, I know, but they are for me and it seems an oddly appropriate film to watch in this incredibly strange piece of American history we are about to witness.

Just for fun, here is McDowell talking about Caligula and doing an absolutely hilarious impression of John Gielgud, who rather enjoyed being in the film.
