As to what is contraduction, a term he coined, here's an example that I experienced this morning:

I had that unsettling experience of sitting in a parked car, with the adjacent car moving, and it induced that sensation that my car was moving, and I of course fruitlessly applied the brake, to no effect of course, as I'm stationary! This is the concept of contraduction: things are 180 degrees from as they appear! Hilarious upon reflection, viscerally terrifying in the moment!

Barker provides many memorable of contraductions that are all around us, yet we fail to notice them.
