David-
I am absolutely stunned and flattered by the inquiry, and would be more than thrilled to give you some more info on myself. Well, let's see...what can I say apart from what I said in my little bio that I posted last week? I am currently in Madison, Wisconsin at the University of Wisconsin, studying composition (and vocal performance to a lesser extent). I've written music for everything from solo viola to full symphony orchestra, and have performed in 2 jazz bands and a rock band in addition to the usual classical chamber ensembles and stuff. I have very little experience in recording...I've had recordings made of my own stuff, and I know a small smattering of terminology, but that's about it.
Apart from my musical life...I'm a little elfin guy, about 5'2", and my hair has been brown, blond, black, purple, green, shaved, long, and normal/conservative all within the past few years. I'm generally drawn to "tempestuous and irrational" extremists, oddballs, fringe elements and such, even though I myself tend to be less extreme than I often wish. I cook a lot....I love the alchemy of kitchens and the satisfaction of eating my own food and having other people nourished by my cuisine. Book-wise, I'm currently big into writings by Douglas Hofstadter and Italo Calvino. I'm an optimistic materialist...I believe that there is no meaning built into our universe, and we get the pleasure and gratification of creating our own. Well, I could keep rambling about random things here and there, but I'm not entirely sure what aspects of myself you wanted to know more about...and rather than just keep throwing things out there, I think I'll stop here and if you have anything else you'd like me to touch on, I'd be beyond happy to do so.
As for a job, it really does sound like something I'd love to do...get involved in an interesting little niche of the music industry, work with some unpredictable people (I'm currently surrounded by nice but boring folks). Unfortunately, I'm currently in a binding contract with this university until May of 2001. If you are interested in someone to work at the Palindrome over this coming summer, some extra help for 3 months or so, I would most definitely be willing and probably able. Or when I get out of here with a Master's degree in 14 months, if you're still interested, I'd still be very interested as well. But as for starting full-time, year-round labor, I regrettably have to say no at the moment, even though this job feels like it would be one of the best things I could do for myself right now. If it is at all feasible, I would really love to be your temporary labor over this summer until perhaps you find a more permanent fixture.
Anyway, thank you so very much for your interest in li'l old me, and feel free to email me at [email protected] or phone me at (608)249-6621. Or, I'm happy to just continue this delightfully public conversation here on the message board. Thanks again, I'm really just speechless and blurting out random things here in order to appear not to be so speechless.
