As a life-long citizen of Missouri, let me extend to everyone my sincere apologies that my freakishly right-wing bible-thumping state ever elected this nazi in the first place.
He was a governor with little or no respect for those opinions not of the conservative slant, using his positions here to systematically push his one-dimensional agenda. He is the worst kind of Christian: one who wants to punish everyone who isn't as "pious" as he is.
We elected a dead governor to take Ashcroft's seat in the senate this year. Apparently a few people saw that Ashcroft represents Christians in government, not Missourians, and that even if you follow a Christian path, that's not what we pay him for. Yes, Ashcroft is still popular here among the Moral Majority (I had to hear about it in church Sunday) but that seems to be more of that righteous blindness.
This all just adds to my growing concern about the Bush camp's inability to seperate church and state.
