>Now about "original thought".  Thanks for >writing, but out of your whole smattering of >language, I am still not hearing a message, >similar to the other paragraphs you submitted. >You seem to be grasping for something, but I am >not hearing it.  The only thing I could decipher >was something about linear thought progression, >correct me if I misinterpreted, vis a vis, >thought leading to thought etc...

>I actually believe in non-linearity and complete >LACK of borders when it comes to thought and >creativity, but we can discuss this later.

This actually was one of the points I made Gene, so yes I think there was some misinterpretation on your part.

>What I was curious about was WHAT DO YOU THINK?
>Examples: 1. I believe life has no meaning
>         2. I believe life does have a meaning.

Well, for one and two, and again I think I stated this, I think life has whatever meaning the individual would like to assign it.

>         3. I think/believe there is a God.
>         4. I think/believe there is no such >thing as God.

Albert Einstein once wrote (I won't dig out the actual quote) that when delving into the mysteries of science it becomes clear that there is some sort of higher power or superior intelligence at work in the universe. He actually had quite a bit to say on this topic. At one point in time this led me to begin writing a book called "The Scientist's Faith". I was all fired up about this and set about my work on it at a furious pace. I have since discovered that this book has no clear beginning and no end. Thus I have determined it is all just notes to myself to help me try to make sense of my own life. What I'm trying to say here is I agree with Einstein and yes, I think there is a higher power at work in the universe.

>         5. I'm confused.

Damn right I'm confused and I'd like to meet the human being that is not. Actually maybe I wouldn't because I think a sure sign of insanity is to claim a complete lack of confusion about life.

>         6. I think John Coltrane was cooler than >Miles Davis, 'cause he didn't punch back when >Miles punched him in the stomach on a gig once.  >etc..(true story).

>Peace,
>Gene

On Coltrane and Davis I'm just thankful they graced us with their presence. I don't think you could name a more perfect recording than "Kind Of Blue" it seems to have come from a place mere mortals could only visit in their most wondrous dreams. I have always been fascinated by Coltrane's spiritual searching through his music. When he wrote the liner notes for "A Love Supreme" some of his associates thought he'd gone over the edge. Coltrane's music comes from someplace very deep and eternal. It's pointless to try to describe music with words (just ask Brad Mehldau) so I won't try.

I also want to say thank you Gene for your kind and generous words. You are a true gentleman and a very compassionate soul. The world would be a better place if there were more out there like you sir. I am well so do not be concerned.

                                Yours,
                                       Doc
