: It was Bernie Grundman who mastered "Boomtown" & Triage".
: David, Who produced the new record?
Hey Jeff, I'll try to answer as best I can...
The producers of record will be David Kitay, Will Sexton, and myself, though I still prefer the "produced by Random Chance" credit, as it seems more honest. With the exception of Bill Bottrell, I hate producers, anyway.
: Was Bill Bottrell involved?
No, not really, except as sort of a cheerleader and a kindred soul.
: While the majority of your work reads
: very thematic, How do you see this record
: in contrast to the others?
Well, this one is still pretty thematic, even more so than the others, as it has one simple theme, namely, "shit happens. I can deal with it"
: How different is the structure
: of putting a record together
: when the music was written out over a long
: period of time as opposed to taking a year or so
: to write a record?
This one, more than any other record I've ever worked on had the benefit of a huge number of songs to pick from, 55, I think in total, including the 28 from AFM. So I didnt have to hammer songs into the text, the text could arrive naturally from the songs, which were all written and recorded in a most unself-conscious manner.
: Do You a have a title in mind?
I'm thinking "Here Comes the New Folk Underground"
: Favorite Lyric?
My brother spent his sundays
at the shopping mall
high on Nembutal
never cared at all
said
"screw it all"
I used to watch his fingers fly
that Mozart look there in his eyes
it almost killed us
when he died
which is obviously a reference to Kevin Gilbert,
who some of you also know of through this and other sources.
: what is the setting?
Mostly the Venice Boardwalk and Hollywood poolrooms, with a couple of sidetrips into people's bedrooms and the odd jail cell.
: JW
Can't wait to see the art and stuff, I know Doc is super excited.
