Oddly, the first few times I heard WTTB on the radio I absolutely hated it and it drove me nuts.
At the time I had just moved to a cold, medium sized city where a man had just been shot and killed on the corner just down the street over some dumbass bar dispute and another man had been shot and killed in the parking lot to the university just before my first fall semester. Coming from a town of 250 people and to move away from all my family and friends it made me think about the terrible mistake I thought I had just made.
And then I saw the video on MTV for Boomtown and instantly liked the song. It showed the life that could exist in the grit of urban life among all the garbage. Even while speaking of the pitfalls of those who made promises to themselves but in the end couldn't keep them.
