: Does the chart consists of Roots artists that are getting airplay across the country on any radio format? Or does it only compile from stations that play the "Roots" format? Just curious? Was also wondering how many "Roots" stations there are out there?

Good question. I think this particular chart lists those stations that DO play Roots (AKA Americana), which can (as you noted) include a fairly broad mix of genres.  I think most people would consider it a sub-category of country. This is a fairly new classification and there are only 50 - 100 stations nationally that actively support it I guess at this point.  I'll see if I can get a complete list, but here's a partial list I found of some of the larger ones:
