With all the bizarre stuff that I've been through of late, I can't recall the source of this bit of info, but I found it kind of fascinating when I heard it because it paints a pretty clear picture of how this Trump administration functions.
So, of all the wacko and horrible Trump nominations, Marco Rubio was pretty much considered his one, well, normal pick. The one person he selected, in this case for Secretary of State, that was the kind of ordinary selection that any Republican administration might make. Rubio was not shocking, like Hegseth, Gaetz, Kash Patel, Gabbard, Linda McMahon...he actually had the credentials to do the job. Sure, nobody is crazy about him, but Rubio has been around a while, knows the ropes, and was a guy that everybody pretty much agreed could do the job.
Of course, working for Trump meant that Rubio would need to pledge loyalty to Trump above country and Constitution, and flip his position on things like USAID, which Marco was a huge supporter of. He argued to Biden that the budget for USAID should be increased, and it was some of the best money we were spending in our budget.
Now, little Marco has to have the opposite position and agree that USAID should be destroyed, after saying it was vital to our national security and standing in the world and had a budget that was just 1% of our spending. He thought the work USAID did was fantastic.
How did he get totally turned around? Well, it seems Marco Rubio has a MAGA minder. A person that watches and listens to everything he does and if he goes off script, he has been told he will be fired and replaced, immediately. Of all the Trump picks, the guy that people seemed to think was the "normal" one, is on the shortest leash.
The Secretary of State has a person that watches them and reports back to...I don't know Trump and Musk I guess...to let them know if he needs to be replaced. There is a loyalty report filed on his daily activities.
