We like Rome and Roman stuff around here. Yeah, those Romans, it was like they were trying to tell us something.

There are people that find the things this administration is doing entertaining. They find that fat pants shitting orange buffoon to be something of a god, or at least a spokesperson for God. That would have to be the shittiest god ever were it true.

A beautiful Vietnamese woman cuts my hair. She is a Buddhist. We discuss current events and Buddhism and Christianity often. Her shop is in what is considered a very wealthy area. Around the corner from her is a big golf course (I think it has two or three courses) where the wealthy play golf in a quiet New England forest. It's a private country club, so members only.

Her clients tend to be very wealthy people because of her location. As such many of them are vocal Trump supporters. These people are not really what I would call stupid. They just have a great deal of self-interest and no real empathy for other people. They often have this take that, they are rich, if you have a problem, you should also just go make yourself rich. If you don't do that, well, you deserve whatever you get. Rich and empathy don't often go together.

Donald Trump is a textbook example of this kind of person, however, he knows how to put on an act, ridiculous as it is, to make people think he cares about them.

There is this crossover between the attitude of the very wealthy and the attitude of many Christians, which is basically that many people deserve to suffer. Suffering is good for them because then they will either try to raise themselves out of suffering or die suffering which they deserve.

This is not how Buddhists see the world. Christians believe in a system of punishment and reward. You are either getting the carrot or the stick, and whichever you are getting, you deserve it. Again, interesting crossover here.

So, yes, to Trump, many wealthy people, and many Christians, they like the circus. The circus makes sense and it is entertainment. Trump is perfect for this because he is just an entertainer. He does know how to appeal to that kind of person and they eat it up. Yum, yum, yum. Does not matter how much poison is in the bread.

Once my pretty Vietnamese hairdresser asked me "Reggie, why are they always fat? Trump supporters seem to always be fat."

And being the guy I am I said "Terri, isn't the Buddha fat? He is known for being a fatty. You think if he were here in the US he would be a Trump supporter?"

Here's a free tip, don't provoke pretty, sassy Vietnamese hairdressers while you are sitting in their chair. I mean, they are holding scissors and they have the upper hand. She slapped me in the back of the head. So, I changed course.

I said "We do have an obesity problem in the US, so I am sure more than just MAGA people are fat. Sometimes it is just genetic. Sometimes it is a medical thing. I also think sometimes unhappy people eat to fill some hole in themselves that nothing seems to fill. Trump supporters I know are rarely happy. I could say the same about wealthy people I know. Perhaps they eat excessively to fill that deep well of unhappiness."

She smiled at me, said "I love you, Reggie." and I escaped another haircut with both ears intact.
