Icon More Legacies from VietNam

I know I'm a little strange, but I make notes to myself on occasion, and came upon this one in going through my documents.   I noted several clustered associations in veterans that I have treated, who served in VietNam, and were in direct combat there.   You may be interested to know that an increased incidence of Type II Diabetes, in veterans exposed to Agent Orange has, in fact, after I made that little mental note to myself, subsequently been established, based upon statistical research, and is now an accepted Service Connected disability criteria for VietNam veterans so exposed.    The remainder of the "legacy" speaks for itself, and makes me wonder about all the things we do NOT yet know about ,stemming from other campaigns, and especially what we may come to learn from the armies returning from Iraq.  At the time I wrote the memo, I entitled it..."you will see the following in association"; I think I was trying to figure out how the events were linked.   The mechanism of dioxin induced/related Diabetes is unknown.   At the time of exposure, with some soldiers being directly awash in the agent, as it was sprayed UPON them if fields/jungles of combat, the soldiers were reassured that the chemical was entirely benign, and that they had nothing to be concerned about.  It was known to leak into the drinking supply as well.

You will see the following association, not necessarily as cause and effect, but factors seemingly inextricably linked. Why, I do not know, but there are larger forces at work here.

Viet Nam veteran------Diabetes-----Hepatitis C-----Agent Orange-----Substance a/o Alcohol use------Psychiatric problems-----Homeless-----Unemployed.
