Reg et al,
'liked it' - nope. I 'liked' Ghandi. But he wasn't saved. Gibson's film was thought provoking from a production standpoint (this seems especially pompous for me to say with consideration to the g. globe winner DB) While watching it I wanted to intercede on Jesus's behalf. It is and wasn't my place, since it never could be. I guess I didn't like it any more than anyone who didn't like watching Denzel's historical character getting whupped for being 'uppity'. I didn't cry. I've read that I am hardened for that reaction. It did not change my life. I've read that I'm faithless for that. I've read that the Soldiers were supposed to be speaking a form of Greek instead of Latin. I'm not really sure that I want to pick those nits. I'm not all that into movies anyway, I like books and music.
My research regarding Pontius (which I wouldn't have done without this movie's controversy as it applies to this board) is inconclusive - Pontius got called back 4 times near as I can tell - the last was his final and Jesus wasn't much of a footnote to that Roman or his peers. I've read that Pontius might've been called back 5 times - no one cared as long as tribute was paid - guess who gathered it for distritbution? The Sanhedrin. Their constituents were massacred. Repeatedly. The 'tide' of which seems hard to judge with regards to when Jesus showed up. He sure was awful uppity, though.
With consideration to all that, I'm not sure what nachos, cheese, popcorn, um, merchandise has to do with this.
