Sounds about right with the white flies. Surprised that if you have a good Lady bug population they aren't taking care of those. Perhaps you should get a gallon.-)

Consistent watering will improve any plants resistance/inconsistent watering will make them more vulnerable.

I'll do some more research.

Are you still getting the butterflies presently? Like a succession crop? I'll look into them too. Often the invading insect provides sufficient clues.

Please don't be insulted when I tell you something you already know, not insult is intended, just covering the bases offhand.
