*** I don't hear you bitching about how many of your tax dollars go to public highways, public water and sewer systems, public education, or Social Security. ***

I've complained about the Big Dig boondoggle in Boston and I've complained about about the billions we seem to be wasting on education because, from where I'm sitting, schools are churning out more and more functional illiterates every year. They can't speak well, they can't write, and they can't spell. I see it every damn day. I don't mind spending money but we should demand results from the investment. Simply throwing money at a problem will not solve any problem or improve any situation. A sense of responsibility must also be included.

*** If you fell out of bed and fractured your skull and became a vegetable your insurance would eventually run out, your family would spend all their resources and then you'd be supported by me and Pat and our tax dollars. Nobody would put you out on the sidewalk. ***

I don't see how you can compare a human condition to taxpayers being expected to "reward" property owners who've failed to insure their homes which will eventually be damaged or destroyed by an act of God, sorry, mother nature. I mean this is a great deal don't you think? Every 5 -10 years these people could get a brand new house! And it won't cost them a dime in property insurance!! It all goes back to "responsibility". If people chose to buy or build a home that's prone to hurricanes or flooding they should be responsible for insuring and protecting their investment. Not us.
