Why someone of Block's background can't grasp the concept that a handout is not a handup. It is human nature that if the gravy train is there for the taking that you will ride it as long as you can and squeal like a pig when it is cutoff.

From Ed's posting of the Grapes of Wrath I can glean an out of touchness he has with the entitlement society we have in 2005 vs the 1930's depression of the Grapes of Wrath. Most of those people back then would barely take take a handout because of pride where today we have whole societies locked into this welfare mentality. Throwing more money at it has never and will never fix it. It only perpetuates the need for more of the same
