I saw Syriana, Good Night and Good Luck, and Crash - I never saw Walk the Lne - I think Training Day did more for race relations than Crash - but maybe that's not the standard to judge it by....I don't know who scored these films - I just watched Gangs of New York and was amazed that Scorcese got Peter Gabriel for the opening scene and U2 for the credits...Syriana, GN&GL, and Crash seem to reward understanding...but I'll be damned if I understand how the photo shoot for non-nominees works...better left to David B. I suppose...
"Glad to see Gustavo Santaolalla win for his "Brokeback" score even though his score for "The Motorcycle Diaries" and "21 Grams" was far superior."
Right on! I liked the score better than the movie - it's not hard to make Wyoming and Montana beautiful - I've always liked complicated (David Baerwald surely has a better word for this) music that's introduced incrementally - such was the case with Brokeback, IMHO..haven't heard or seen 21 grams or the Motorcycle Diaries....didn't even know G.S. scored them...
Kev - lotsa buzz about the Arctic Monkeys - I've recorded their performance on SNL, but haven't watched it...why do you like them?
I'm all for disproving a preconceived notion...:)
