My reaction to flags on cars, etc is "wow, I never would have imagined that guy with the Indiana plates is American. Gee whiz!" Also, there are numerous rules and regulations as to the correct way to display and care for the flag (see here: http://www.ushistory.org/betsy/flagetiq.html#5) that about 99% of the people using them are NOT following. I guess it's too much trouble to do it right.
